About Us

We have tens of thousands of good books at friendly prices which are not among our 7000+ books listed online-- and those are here on our shelves, as well.

Yes, we buy books.  Please call or email first to find out whether we can use what you want to sell.  We buy good quality, good condition books, especially classic titles of literature, philosophy, classics, poetry.  What we offer depends on current market conditions and our inventory needs.  The dollar value of a book is not mostly about its age, but about quality and condition.

Every day, people contact us about "rare" books that are not rare, "first editions" that are not first editions, and "values" seen on the internet that are not values.  This is largely because the online marketplace is overrun with amateur sellers.  The internet can tell you anything you want to believe, but it cannot give you 30 years experience in bookselling to see books in their genuine context.  The asking prices and quantities of any given book on Abebooks, for example, tell you nothing about demand and actual sales.   Whether the "value" you find when you "research" your book is fifty cents or five hundred dollars, all that matters to a real bookseller is whether that is a book people actually want.  We like the $3 paperback copy of 1984 as much as the $20 nice old copy of Three Musketeers.

We
do not buy textbooks, library discards, Time Life books, Reader's Digest books, paperback romance, magazines, encyclopedias, damaged books.
